Some cute hand drawn illustration birds from Deadpan Alley's Shop at Etsy. Her illustrations are drawn on old book pages, creating a certain vintage look. Simple and lovely.

Sewing!

I've had an old sewing machine at home for years and we believed it was about time to send it to the repair shop and make it brand new again. And we did it this week.

Now I've been busy trying to find out interesting craftsy projects to use it, and just ran into these lovely fabric birds from Spool (free pattern here). I'm just finishing my first one!

Bohemian Living

I wasn't able to utter a word when I saw these: unbeliavably lovely, hippie-chic antique Gypsy Caravans completely restaured, ready-to-dream on!!!

In the heat of Provence, the work is mainly done by Jeanne Bayol and her husband, who make and restore caravans using techniques dating back to the beginning of the century. Their work can be found at Les Verdines, where they also sell some craft items.

I want one of those bohemian wandering homes so badly!!

Sea inspired

Remember an old post of mine on crochet sea creatures?

I just found on Etsy these lovely clay sea and fungus inspired pieces designed by Heather Knight from elementclaystudio. Such beautiful work! It must take her days to make a single piece!

Ceramic

A couple of years ago I've been to this incredible ceramic exibith here in Brazil at Museu da Casa Brasileira. Alongside with the exibith there was also a lecture and discussion over Máximo Soalheiro's work, which is made of pieces of ceramic stamped with metal types, the same ones which were early used to create prints.

His work is so poetic, although the mixture of typography, ceramic and tiles has such strenght!He has also developed some printed material, most of it based on the use of these printing metal types. Types such as blank pieces are seen from a different point of view, creating a truly innovative and artistic work.

I find it particulary interesting that his view on how handicraft and digital technologies is that they don't come from worlds apart; actually, his whole work affirms the opposite. Graphic arts and ceramics have roots in common. Specially in the hands of a masterful artist. Soalheiro has also a site, with lots of pictures of his work. Take a look right here!
