Oh, I found these Christmas decorations so cute! These baubles are from Gudrun Sjödén's store, total must-have for this season! They are made from papier maché and decorated with enamel, hand-painted in India. Lovely!

Are you feeling a little vintage today? What about taking a look at this lovely bedroom vanity collection, where I found this so-cute looking piece!

Such a cute house would be even more charming with some lovely pillows from Etsy's Styled Spaces.

And also with these adorable french script pins from Etsy's Shabby Chic Cottage!

Beautiful pillows!!

Take a look at what I just found All Modern! It has such interesting things for decorating your home. You can find from designer pieces such as Bertoia Chair and Saarinen's Table to really cute pillows such as these ones. The green one goes really well on a periwinkle couch, and the red one is a sure hit on a beige one.

I also love this olive-brown here! Hope they get to ship to Brazil soon!!

How to become a famous blogger...

Great one from weblogcartoons.

Nestlin!

I love birds, but I just can't stand seeing them in cages.
Today I found a great answer to this problem! Nestlin is a multifunctional wine packaging made from wood designed by Igor Solovyov: after using it to carry wine, it can be used as a bird nesting box, being therefore sustainable and earth friendly. There is also a little hole for you to insert a stick to create a perch for the birds. Cute!!

Wordle!

Ah, this one is really interesting! Wordle is a site where you can enter some text or an RSS feed link and it creates a word cloud of the main words used on the material. Check out my word clouds for YelloHippo!!

Spring...

I'm such a big fan of Alicia Bock's work! I have posted something on her work previously here, remember?

She has just lauched her new photography collection... really worth taking a look at her dreamy, beautiful vintage-looking polaroids, blooming trees and spring themes!

Chinese Preserved Sweets!

Have you ever tried one of these very peculiar tasting Chinese sweets?
The first one is made from preserved plums and the second is from olives... interesting tastes!
You can find them right here, at Tang 1968. Yummy!

Peruvian is the new Japanese...

I've finally been to La Mar! What a lovely (and tasty!) experience... All I have to say is that Peruvian food never tasted so Peruvian, yet with a local seasoning. Ceviche correctly served with just the right amount of lemon, onions and rocoto. No so spicy as the real thing in Peru, but seasoned so well that the taste was perfect. Lovely clams, squids, scallops, octopuses and tuna...

Sofisticated yet clean architecture gets mixed with Peruvian music. Well trained waiters are able to explain each dish without hurry, turning each description into a little journey to Lima. Highly recommended and well worth another visit some time soon!!

Peruvian food goes mainstream

São Paulo, Brazil, is becoming every day a little bit more Peruvian. Since Shimo opened its doors bringing us our first nipo-peruvian restaurant experiences, tastes such as ceviche, pisco and causas became every day closer.
I wouldn't think it is too much saying Peruvian is the new Japanese.

Food is just like fashion today, and no better restaurant to show this than La Mar, covered with wood from flooring to its walls and with very charming blue chairs... I'm just dying to go there!

Play Rethink

I've been to a workshop in São Paulo on this new game called Play Rethink, developed by Lilli Larratea, focused on creating new sustainable design solution for common objects and processes.

New ideas created can be posted on their site, creating an incredible amount of solutions from all over the globe! Nice product to buy for your kids, btw. Players doodle their ideas on sheets such as this one:

Tweet - Feedback!

Hey! Take a look at this nice "tweet-review" I found about my blog!

"Design bonitinho.. bem europeu... feminino, delicado e porque não dizer frugal.. http://yellohippo.blogspot.com/ :)"

Which could be freely translated as "Cute design...very european (hey! I'm Brazilian!!!)... feminine, delicate and why not to say frugal.. =)

Sweet! Thanks, Luiz!

Sewing!

I've had an old sewing machine at home for years and we believed it was about time to send it to the repair shop and make it brand new again. And we did it this week.

Now I've been busy trying to find out interesting craftsy projects to use it, and just ran into these lovely fabric birds from Spool (free pattern here). I'm just finishing my first one!

Bohemian Living

I wasn't able to utter a word when I saw these: unbeliavably lovely, hippie-chic antique Gypsy Caravans completely restaured, ready-to-dream on!!!
In the heat of Provence, the work is mainly done by Jeanne Bayol and her husband, who make and restore caravans using techniques dating back to the beginning of the century. Their work can be found at Les Verdines, where they also sell some craft items.

I want one of those bohemian wandering homes so badly!!

Somewhat Folk

Ever heard of Mallu Magalhães? This 16-year old girl is now one of the new names in folk music in Brazil.
I actually didn't like many of her songs, but give her a chance and check out this one: Tchubaruba.

What I've been up to...

By this time of the year, I've decided to dedicate some of my time getting in the mood for Christmas, so I bought this book on short stories, The Ecco Book of Christmas Stories, and have been reading it, almost hearing Jingle-Bells... Lovely stories; highly recommended!
