Nestlin!

I love birds, but I just can't stand seeing them in cages.
Today I found a great answer to this problem! Nestlin is a multifunctional wine packaging made from wood designed by Igor Solovyov: after using it to carry wine, it can be used as a bird nesting box, being therefore sustainable and earth friendly. There is also a little hole for you to insert a stick to create a perch for the birds. Cute!!

I've been to a workshop in São Paulo on this new game called Play Rethink, developed by Lilli Larratea, focused on creating new sustainable design solution for common objects and processes.

New ideas created can be posted on their site, creating an incredible amount of solutions from all over the globe! Nice product to buy for your kids, btw. Players doodle their ideas on sheets such as this one:

Bohemian Living

I wasn't able to utter a word when I saw these: unbeliavably lovely, hippie-chic antique Gypsy Caravans completely restaured, ready-to-dream on!!!
In the heat of Provence, the work is mainly done by Jeanne Bayol and her husband, who make and restore caravans using techniques dating back to the beginning of the century. Their work can be found at Les Verdines, where they also sell some craft items.

I want one of those bohemian wandering homes so badly!!

Ceramic

A couple of years ago I've been to this incredible ceramic exibith here in Brazil at Museu da Casa Brasileira. Alongside with the exibith there was also a lecture and discussion over Máximo Soalheiro's work, which is made of pieces of ceramic stamped with metal types, the same ones which were early used to create prints.

His work is so poetic, although the mixture of typography, ceramic and tiles has such strenght! He has also developed some printed material, most of it based on the use of these printing metal types. Types such as blank pieces are seen from a different point of view, creating a truly innovative and artistic work.

I find it particulary interesting that his view on how handicraft and digital technologies is that they don't come from worlds apart; actually, his whole work affirms the opposite. Graphic arts and ceramics have roots in common. Specially in the hands of a masterful artist. Soalheiro has also a site, with lots of pictures of his work. Take a look right here!

Blackout!

Said to reduce the amount of energy spent simply on standby or during researches, Blackle uses Google's research engine. It is somewhat doubtfull whether it might really reduce energy use, specially concerning LCD screens. Take a look at www.blackle.com and check it out for yourself!
